‘Morning Walk’ is inspired by time spent on the Oregon Coast. While there, days are spent walking the beach and recovering from hectic daily life. It is truly a respite. I take photographs and sketch at different times of the day and in different weather and light conditions. For this piece, I assembled all of the sketches and photographs from multiple trips and began to see a morning theme emerging. I then dyed and painted cotton fabric in soft blues and violets, from which to select my final palette. The result evokes the feeling of when I first wake and head out to the beach to stand at water’s edge.
Fabric collage created with hand-dyed cotton fabrics, quilted with a variety of polyester and silk threads. The pieces of the collage are permanently fused and stitched, prior to quilting.
