Welcome to Jordan Pond, located in Maine’s Acadia National Park. One of my favorite places to hike, this area is lush and green in spring and summer, and ablaze in gold, yellow and orange in the fall. On any given day, one can see beaver, loons, Atlantic Salmon and trout, as well as many rushes and reeds. The area is full of many species of trees, plants and wildlife. ‘Autumn Reflections’ was inspired by a walk around the pond on a glorious October day, with reflections of the fall foliage appearing in this tranquil clear water pond.
Acadia, like many areas in our precious world, is facing the harsh reality of climate change. It has been predicted that if heat-trapping pollutants continue at the current level, the average temperatures could rise 8-9 degrees by 2070. We all are stewards of this magnificent planet and our cry needs to be louder and more persistent – and our actions unrelenting – for protecting and saving these fragile habitats for generations to come.
Fabric collage created with hand-dyed cotton fabrics, quilted with a variety of polyester and silk threads. The pieces of the collage are permanently fused and stitched, prior to quilting.
