Color Study Series Artist Statement
Fascinated by color relationships and the feelings evoked by them, my Color Study series explores color theory and how to incorporate various hues, shades and tints to create a specific mood within the piece. The series uses umbrellas as the central theme and dense quilting and various types of thread to achieve depth, contour and the impression of rain.
Umbrellas suggest people and relationships as well. I am intent on positioning the umbrellas in such a way that a story begins to unfold and leads the viewer to be curious about what the people are doing and what the relationship might be. This interpretation will be different for each viewer as we are influenced by our own personal history or “stories”.
